Jodhpur: Bringing a significant update for thousands of passengers travelling between Delhi and Rajasthan, the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, has officially renamed Train No. 12249/12250 Shakur Basti–Jaisalmer Express as “Swarn Nagari Express.” The decision aims to reflect the cultural identity and golden heritage of Jaisalmer, popularly known as the Golden City of India.
The Railway Board announced the change through an official order (No. 2025/CHG/36/04 dated December 2, 2025). As per the directive, Northern Railway, New Delhi, and North Western Railway, Jaipur, have been instructed to ensure timely implementation of the new nomenclature across all operational networks.
Comprehensive Updates to Be Rolled Out
Railway officials confirmed that the renaming will not be limited to documentation alone. All associated systems and public-facing services will undergo updates, including:
- Train timetables and operational charts
- Railway station display boards and announcement systems
- Online booking portals and mobile applications
- Passenger information systems across stations and trains
- Printed materials, reservation slips, and communication notices
These updates will be executed immediately to avoid any confusion among passengers and to ensure uniformity across platforms.
Cultural Significance Behind the New Name
Jaisalmer, world-famous for its golden sandstone architecture and desert landscapes, has long been referred to as “Swarn Nagari.” Officials believe that renaming the express train will help highlight the region’s heritage and strengthen its identity on the national travel map.
