Bollywood actress Ruchi Gurjar, who grabbed attention at the 79th Cannes Film Festival with her unique Rajasthani look and strong social message, arrived in Jaipur on Thursday. Speaking to the media, she shared her views on the practice of ghoonghat (veil) and women's safety.

Ruchi Gurjar said that despite living behind a veil, women are still not completely safe in society. According to her, the real issue is women's safety, which requires serious attention and discussion. She questioned the notion that ghoonghat ensures protection for women, pointing out that crimes against women continue to occur despite such traditions.

She explained that her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival was not merely a fashion statement but a powerful social message. Through the international platform, she sought to raise her voice against the ghoonghat practice that is still prevalent in many rural parts of India. Ruchi said that she belongs to rural Rajasthan and has personally witnessed women being compelled to remain behind a veil.

She clarified that she does not associate the practice with any particular caste, class, or community. Instead, she views it in the context of women's freedom and rights. According to her, every woman should have the right to step out from behind any form of social veil and live with dignity, identity, and self-expression.

At Cannes, Ruchi wore a specially designed traditional Rajasthani outfit crafted with gold and silver threads by renowned designer Harshika Ranawat. Speaking about the attire, she said that while the outfit symbolizes honor and tradition, women deserve safety along with respect. She emphasized that incidents of harassment and sexual violence continue to rise, making it clear that veiling alone cannot guarantee women's security.

On the Cannes red carpet, Ruchi made a striking appearance in traditional Rajasthani attire along with a ghoonghat. Her look also incorporated the lotus symbol, the election emblem of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Commenting on this, she said that social awareness and strong leadership are essential to eliminating outdated practices and discrimination against women.

Ruchi Gurjar concluded by stating that women deserve equality, respect, and the freedom to live openly and confidently. She stressed that ensuring women's safety must remain one of society's highest priorities.
