Golden Hour Crucial in Cyber Crime Cases, Immediate Reporting Can Help Recover Funds: IPS Shantanu K. Singh

Jaipur, June 7: The first 60 minutes after a cybercrime incident, often referred to as the "Golden Hour," are extremely critical for victims. Prompt reporting during this period can help freeze the defrauded amount, preserve digital evidence, prevent further transfer of funds, and significantly strengthen the investigation process. This was stated by IPS officer Shantanu K. Singh, DIG Cyber Crime, Rajasthan Police, while addressing a session on “Trends and Prevention of Cyber Crime” at Ashok Club in Jaipur.

The event was organized under the ‘Sahyog’ initiative of Prabha Khaitan Foundation, bringing together participants to discuss the growing challenges posed by cybercrime and the measures needed to stay safe in the digital age.

Addressing the audience, DIG Singh highlighted that senior citizens are among the most vulnerable targets for cybercriminals. Fraudsters often exploit emotions such as fear, greed, and trust to deceive people into sharing sensitive information or transferring money. He noted that lack of awareness, insecurity, and temptation are among the key factors that contribute to cyber fraud incidents.

He emphasized the importance of continuously learning about emerging technologies and staying informed about developments in the digital world. According to him, awareness, vigilance, and accurate information remain the most effective defenses against cybercrime.

Speaking about current cybercrime trends, DIG Singh said that Digital Arrest scams, KYC frauds, Deepfake scams, Social Media Impersonation, and Investment Frauds are among the most commonly reported cybercrimes today. Cybercriminals increasingly use advanced technology and social engineering techniques to gain the trust of victims and obtain their personal information, banking details, or money.

He advised citizens to exercise caution before responding to unknown calls, messages, links, or online investment offers. He also urged people to verify investment-related schemes through SEBI before making any financial commitments.

DIG Singh informed the gathering that cybercrime incidents can be reported through the national cybercrime helpline 1930. Additionally, Rajasthan Police has made two dedicated WhatsApp numbers available round-the-clock for assistance: 9256001930 and 9257510100.

The interactive session concluded with participants raising several questions related to online frauds, cybersecurity risks, and preventive measures, which were answered in detail by DIG Singh. Earlier, Ajay Singha delivered the welcome address, while Jagdeep Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
