DNT Communities Announce 'Maha-Padav' in Jaipur, Demand 10% Reservation and Other Key Reforms

Jaipur, June 29: The National Livestock Herders' Association and the DNT Sangharsh Samiti have announced a "Maha-Padav" (mass sit-in protest) in Jaipur from July 1, stating that the agitation will continue until the Rajasthan government takes a positive decision on their key demands.

Addressing a press conference, Samiti President Lalji Raika said that Denotified and Nomadic Tribes (DNTs) should be provided with a separate 10% reservation. He claimed that this could be implemented through sub-classification within the existing SC and OBC categories without breaching the 50% reservation ceiling. He also referred to the recommendations of various commissions and Supreme Court judgments in support of the demand.

The committee alleged that although the government had assured them it would consider their demands following talks after the Balarai Maha-Padav, no concrete action has been taken even after several months. The leaders also expressed concern over police cases, arrests of protesters, and what they described as repressive actions during the movement.

According to the Samiti, statewide protests, including the "Jail Bharo" campaign, foot marches, and demonstrations at district headquarters, failed to elicit any positive response from the government. As a result, the organization has decided to launch the Maha-Padav in Jaipur from July 1.

The committee's key demands include a 10% reservation for DNT communities, sub-classification within the reservation system, removal of caste-related anomalies, allotment of land and housing plots for DNT families, and implementation of its 11-point charter of demands. The Samiti also stated that it would now hold talks only at the Chief Minister's level.
