For the first time in India, a theatre production from New Zealand will be presented at Jayarangam, marking a significant international collaboration. In total, 11 theatre productions will be staged during the four-day festival, with six plays featured under the special “Spotlight” segment, dedicated this year to women theatre directors.
Renowned Bollywood actor Makarand Deshpande and Festival Director Man Gehra addressed the media and shared insights into the festival’s vision. Deshpande said Jayarangam has grown from an idea into a major cultural movement and credited Jaipur’s theatre-loving audience for keeping the stage alive. He also appreciated the festival’s focus on women-centric narratives this year.
Man Gehra stated that Jayarangam 2025 has been curated to celebrate theatre and culture while placing women at the centre of creative expression. She added that the festival aims to connect local artists with national and international performers.
The festival will feature performances by several well-known artists, including Filmfare OTT Award 2025 winner Zahan Kapoor, Makarand Deshpande, international artist Nadia Freeman, Aditya Rawal, Mallika Taneja, Shilpika Bordoloi, Saurabh Nayyar, and others. A special highlight will be the New Zealand play “The Girmit”, directed by Sameena Zehra, being staged in India for the first time with participation from Jaipur-based actor Mohammed Zaman.
Apart from theatre performances, Jayarangam 2025 will include musical performances, Dastangoi, exhibitions and heritage walks, offering audiences a comprehensive cultural experience. The festival will also pay tribute to legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt on the occasion of his 100th birth anniversary through the special presentation “Dastaan-e-Guru Dutt.”
The organisers said Jayarangam has emerged as a strong platform for cultural dialogue, promoting both international collaboration and local talent, while continuing to enrich Jaipur’s cultural landscape.
