West Zone Olympic Table Tennis (Men) Tournament Kicks Off at MJRPU with Flag Hoisting and March-Past Players display outstanding performance in thrilling opening-day matches

 



Jaipur, December 14.
The five-day West Zone Olympic Table Tennis (Men) Tournament was inaugurated on Monday at the sports complex of Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phoole University (MJRPU), Achrol, with a ceremonial flag hoisting and march-past. Member of Parliament Rajendra Gehlot graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Rajasthan Government Sports Secretary and IAS officer Neeraj K. Pawan was present as the Guest of Honour. The event was presided over by University Chairperson Nirmal Panwar.




Addressing the gathering, MP Rajendra Gehlot said that the government is fully committed to promoting sports. Through yoga, physical exercise, and various sporting activities, youth are being continuously encouraged to participate in sports. He added that special focus is being laid on providing better training facilities and regular sporting opportunities for athletes. Indian players, he noted, have created history on global platforms such as the Olympics and World Cups through their exceptional performances.




Sports Secretary IAS Neeraj K. Pawan emphasized that along with organizing tournaments, ensuring maximum participation of youth is crucial. He described the hosting of such a prestigious event at MJRPU as a unique initiative for Rajasthan, stating that such platforms play a vital role in motivating young players and shaping their sporting careers.

University Chairperson Nirmal Panwar said that athletes who possess passion, discipline, and determination are bound to succeed in achieving their goals. Events like these send a strong message encouraging the youth of the nation to showcase and enhance their talent. He also announced that the university will soon host a national-level sports event. Highlighting the importance of sports, he said they contribute significantly to both physical and mental well-being, and this tournament offers a valuable opportunity for talented players to demonstrate their skills.

On the occasion, AIU observers Indu Malik and Prof. Zoya Chakravarty highlighted the importance of balancing academics with sports for holistic development of students.

Organized under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the five-day tournament has generated tremendous enthusiasm among participants. Around 500 players from over 100 universities representing **five states—Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, and Maharashtra—**are taking part in the competition. On the opening day, preliminary league matches were played, featuring intense and exciting contests. The evening concluded with colorful cultural performances by local artists, beautifully showcasing the vibrant heritage of Rajasthan.
