Rajasthan’s First Heart and Lung Transplant Clinic Inaugurated in Jaipur

Jaipur, March 29. Rajasthan’s first Heart and Lung Transplant Clinic was inaugurated at Priyanka Hospital and Cardiac Centre in Mansarovar, Jaipur. The initiative has been launched in collaboration with MGM Healthcare, Chennai, with the aim of providing timely expert consultation, advanced diagnostics, and transplant-related guidance to patients suffering from severe heart and lung diseases across Rajasthan and neighboring states.

Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani attended the event as the Chief Guest. MLAs Bahadur Singh Koli and Balwant Singh Ligri were present as Special Guests.

Following the inauguration of the OPD, a press conference was held where Dr. K. R. Balakrishnan stated that the facility would be especially beneficial for patients suffering from end-stage heart failure, lung failure, severe cardiomyopathy, pulmonary hypertension, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, COPD, and other complex cardiopulmonary conditions. He emphasized that timely expert opinion and transplant referral can be life-saving for many patients.

Experts highlighted that many patients often miss timely evaluation, transplant referral, and access to advanced support systems, leading to delays in treatment. With the launch of this OPD, patients in Jaipur will now have access to early expert consultation, severity assessment, transplant eligibility evaluation, and guidance on further treatment planning.

Dr. Suresh Rao KG noted that heart and lung transplantation has emerged as a life-saving option for patients battling end-stage organ failure. He added that advanced life-support technologies such as ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) and mechanical circulatory support play a crucial role in managing critically ill patients.

Dr. Soumitra Sinha Roy stated that many patients with serious lung diseases remain undiagnosed or are not referred appropriately for long periods. Conditions such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, advanced COPD, pulmonary hypertension, and end-stage lung disease require timely specialist consultation and transplant evaluation. He added that the new OPD in Jaipur will significantly improve access to proper diagnosis and treatment pathways.

The heart and lung transplant team of MGM Healthcare, Chennai, is among the leading teams in India and has performed over 750 heart and lung transplants. This expertise will now be extended to Jaipur through OPD consultations and patient selection processes.

Dr. G. L. Sharma, Chairman of Priyanka Hospital and Cardiac Centre, stated that this initiative will reduce the need for patients from Rajasthan to frequently travel to metro cities and will provide them with early-stage expert guidance and coordinated treatment planning. He added that the clinic is expected to develop into a key referral and consultation center for advanced heart and lung diseases in the future.

Several experts, including Dr. G. L. Sharma, Dr. K. R. Balakrishnan, Dr. Suresh Rao KG, and Dr. Soumitra Sinha Roy, were present on the occasion.
