Residents Oppose Liquor Shop Near Housing Society, Demand Relocation

Jaipur: Residents of Kedia’s “The Kothi”, a large residential township developed under the Chief Minister Jan Awas Yojana (CMJAY) in Vaishali Extension, Jaipur, have strongly opposed the opening of a liquor shop directly opposite their housing society. Social worker Saroj Choudhary, along with residents, has urged the authorities to relocate the outlet to a more suitable location.

According to residents, the township comprises 1,037 residential units and is home to more than 600 families. They stated that a general store operating in front of the society was recently replaced by a liquor shop, triggering concern and resentment among local residents.

Residents pointed out that a temple is located near the liquor outlet and is visited daily by women, children, senior citizens, and devotees. They believe that the operation of a liquor shop in close proximity to both a residential community and a religious place is socially and culturally inappropriate.

The residents have also expressed concerns about the potential impact on the safety and comfort of women and young girls, the healthy environment required for children, and the overall social dignity and peaceful atmosphere of the neighborhood.

In their appeal to the administration, residents have requested immediate action to shift the liquor shop to another suitable location, keeping in mind public sentiment, social values, religious sensitivities, and the original objective of the Chief Minister Jan Awas Yojana, which aims to provide a safe and family-friendly living environment.

The residents said they are hopeful that the authorities will take a positive and sensitive decision in the larger public interest.
