Jaipur, December 19. The five-day West Zone Inter-University Olympic Discipline Table Tennis (Men) Tournament, organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), concluded on Friday at the sports complex of Mahatma Jyoti Rao Phoole University (MJRPU), Achrol.
In the final match, RTM Nagpur University delivered an impressive performance to defeat SPPU Pune by 3–0, clinching the championship title. DAVV Indore secured third place after defeating SRTM Nanded by 3–2, while SRTM Nanded finished fourth in the tournament.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman Mr. Nirmal Panwar emphasized that winning or losing is not the true essence of sports; rather, the joy derived from participation is the greatest reward. He highlighted that sports foster active participation, teamwork and discipline in life. Stressing the importance of physical fitness along with education, he said that organizing sports competitions plays a vital role in the holistic development of students. He also noted that MJRPU is hosting such a prestigious tournament for the second time in Rajasthan, with the objective of promoting sportsmanship, dedication and excellence among young athletes.
The tournament was officiated by Mr. G.K. Rajput, Chief Coach from the Sports Authority of India, while Mr. Rajkamal Sharma, International Umpire, served as the Chief Manager and Match Referee.
The championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 500 players representing more than 100 universities across five states—Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa and Maharashtra—making it a grand celebration of competitive university-level table tennis.
