Fee Dispute at Rajasthan University: Hunger Strike Ends After 6 Days

Jaipur: The student protest at Rajasthan University over the increased fees for the Master’s degree in Rajasthani language finally ended on Saturday after six days. The situation became serious as the health of students on hunger strike began to deteriorate, prompting intervention from authorities and public representatives.

MLA Gopal Sharma reached the spot, interacted with the students, and termed their demands justified. He assured them that the issue would be strongly raised before the government and helped end the hunger strike by offering coconut water to the students.

According to the protesting students, the annual fee for the Rajasthani language Master’s course exceeds ₹50,000, which is significantly higher compared to other language courses. They alleged that while foreign language courses are available for ₹10,000–₹14,000, charging such high fees for a regional language reflects inequality. The protest had been ongoing over this issue.

During the hunger strike, several students fell ill and were rushed to Sawai Man Singh Hospital, where doctors monitored their condition and provided necessary treatment.

MLA Gopal Sharma also supported the demand for establishing a separate department for the Rajasthani language. He said that concrete steps should be taken to promote regional language and culture, and assured that the matter would be taken up with the government.

Although the students have currently called off their protest, they warned that if their demands are not addressed soon, they may resume their agitation.
